The player unit has a solar cell, battery or connection to the mains supply to provide electric energy to drive the replaying device. The device is turned on and off by a time clock, or by a proximity detector or by a photocell responding to the existence of daylight. The device has a loud speaker driven by an amplifier to reproduce sound, and a liquid crystal or plasma display screen to show the video data. The recording is carried on a compact disc which can carry both sound and image data. A coin operated controller can be associated with the recorder.
