APPARATUS FOR HOLDING AN ARTICLE

An apparatus for holding a disk-like article such as a compact disc or CD-ROM (11) is disclosed. A shell (15) has a pair of grooves (19) inside the sidewalls. A tray (17) for holding the compact disc has a pair of hooks (21) which engage the grooves to allow the tray to slide into and out of the shell. The compact disc is held by a heart (23) shaped as a cylinder including bumps (25) around the cylinder to prevent the compact disc from sliding off the heart. Alternatively, a continuous rib (26) may be used instead of the bumps. Another version of the heart is made of a flexible but resilient material (32) which allows the compact disc to snugly fit over the heart. In the latter embodiment, one can remove the compact disc by pressing down onto the heart to release the compact disc.
