A cushioning device for alleviating loads placed upon a portion of the torso of a user employs a multi-layered pliant material (12, 14, 30) having a cushioning flock as one of the layers thereof. At least that portion of the device which engages a portion of the torso of the user has a slippage impeding surface deposited or associated therewith.
