Control system for ignition of fuel-air mixture in IC engine

摘要

An ignition timing/control system for an IC engine employs a pre-ignition knock sensor in each cylinder to monitor the prevailing combustion characteristic and thereby set limits to permissible flame speed/peak pressures for storage by the electronic engine controller under all conditions of operation as identified by measurements of rpm, air induction, fuel injection, ignition timing, temperature etc.. The system is particularly effective when igniting a lean fuel/air mixture and achieves an efficient combustion performance by control of the intensity and duration of the igniter source which may be linear or rotary spark or high intensity laser.
