Torque converter hydraulic clutch control modulator arrangement

A hydraulic control operates a vehicular locking clutch (10) incorporated in a torque converter (60). The locking clutch grip-face has a fluid passage (P5) with a supply of pressurised fluid, and creates a direct link between the torque converter power input (61) and output (62). The other clutch face has a fluid passage (P6) which is supplied with fluid under controlled pressure, and releases the clutch, and creates a direct link between the torque converter power input and output. The hydraulic control has a modulation valve (40) controlling the flow of pressurised fluid from the hydraulic fluid (20) and regulating valve (30) to the passage. It also has a locking control valve (50) linking the fluid passage to a radiator (70) fluid inlet (P8). This releases the clutch and supplies fluid to the fluid passage, activating the clutch when fluid passage is under modulated pressure.
