PURPOSE:To attain a physical address at a high speed corresponding to a logical address by calculating the logical address and then the physical address in terms of hardware. CONSTITUTION:A straight line is drawn between a start point Ps and an end point Pe by an instruction given from a control part 20. In this case, a physical address arithmetic part 21 obtains the intermediate information needed for drawing process of the slope of the straight line from both points Ps and Pe. This information is stored in an internal register. Based on this data, the logical address of the next drawing point P1 is calculated together with the physical address corresponding to said logical address. While the picture element data corresponding to the point Ps is calculated while two address operations of X and Y directions are carried out at arithmetic parts 21 and 22. Such operations are repeated until the point Pe to store the picture element data for drawing a straight line in a display memory. In other words, a high-speed physical address is obtained in response to a logical address by calculating both logical and physical addresses in terms of hardware.
