PURPOSE:To obtain a roll having uniform and minute structure and excellent surface stability by applying cold plastic working to a roll barrel material which is cast from an austenitic alloy, and then subjecting the material to recrystallization heat treatment. CONSTITUTION:A columnar roll barrel material is cast from an austenitic alloy by centrifugal casting, etc. The material is subjected to cold plastic working at >=10% draft, and then to recrystallization heat treatment at about 900 deg.C. Then solid soln. treatment is applied in accordance with the requirement at about 1,000-1,250 deg.C. Since the roll barrel part obtained by said method has uniform and fine crystal structure and hence excellent surface structure, the initial smooth surface is kept without generating ruggedness even when used under conditions where thermal stress is generated. Accordingly, the roll is applicable to a bending roll for manufacturing sheet glass, etc. |
