This invention refers to a portable device for monitoring blood pressure, especially in case of emergency and special cases, as well as in medical offices or in sports. The device consists of an infrared transmitter (17) and a receiver (18) between which the patient's finger is positioned, resulting in a variable electric signal given as input to a preamplifier stage (C), connected to an amplifier stage (D). The amplified signal enters a switch (E) that activates an optical signalling device (8) and simultaneously, an oscillator stage (F) produces a sound signal by means of a crystal loudspeaker (7). The numeric value of the pulse frequency can be shown on a display (48), by receiving successive impulses from the output of an integrated circuit (37) from the switch (E), and given as input and processed by an electronic display (G).
