Techniques for interfacing a plurality of electronic circuit board assembly devices used in an assembly line. A first assembly device has m lanes each adapted for performing a first set of assembly operations on a circuit board, and a second assembly device has n lanes each adapted for performing a second set of assembly operations on a circuit board, where m and n are positive integers and n is not equal to m. Novel interfacing means, in the form of a conveyer, are provided for conveying circuit boards from any of the m lanes of the first assembly device to any of the n lanes of the second assembly device. The conveyer includes an optional board sensing device that generates an output indication in response to a circuit board traversing the conveyer. If the optional sensing device is employed, according to a further embodiment, the conveyer transports a given circuit board from a selected one of the m lanes of the first assembly device to a selected one of the n lanes of the second assembly device based upon the movement of circuit boards in the assembly line as determined by the board sensing device.
