Automotive engine oil sump for deep-level oil collection

The main component (2) of the oil sump (1) has a flat bottom part (2b) which defines a flat inside sector (2c) for oil collection and an upright wall (2a). This delineates an inner space having an open-bottom inner section (2c) to lead oil over to the flat part (1b) lying below. The wall (2a) comprises two longitudinal, opposing sidewall (2m,2n) sections that define an open-bottom free space between them and the main sump component. A flow-regulating barrier (5-7) descending from the flat part, extends longitudinally along the sidewall sectors. A transverse strip (11,12) reaches across from one sidewall to the other and is connected in turn to the low barrier. The upright wall is designed to fit onto the underside of the engine cylinder block. The main component is a casting whereas the flat part is made from formed metal. The barriers reach down behind one end of the flat part (2a), right forward to the transverse strip. One end of the cross strip is joined to the first sidewall section (2m) at the first of several screw holes (10) in the main component (2).
