The press for deep drawing components, especially from metal sheets, has a movement path sensor as an image conversion sensor (8), pref. as an electronic coupled charge device (CCD) line camera. It is located in a recess (6) in the moving (2) or static (3) press dies. The recess (6) has an observation slit (13) on the surface towards the workpiece (5) to be drawn.
