Each top jaw (31) has a transverse recess (41) and slot (43), each extending completely through the top jaw (31), with the slot (43) connecting the recess (41) with the bottom side (33). Each top jaw (31) has two parallel threaded holes (51) extending from a rearward end (64) to the slot (43). Each of the holes (51) contains a set screw (53) and a loading pin (55). When the screw (53) is threaded into the hole (51), the screw (53) slidingly moves the pin (55) toward the contact face of the top jaw (31). When the contact faces apply clamping pressure to the workpiece, the recess (41) and slot (43) allow the forward end (38) of the top jaw (31) to deflect to remain in flush engagement with the workpiece. The slot (43) defines a rearward facing shoulder (63) on the forward end (38). The maximum deflection of the forward end (38) is limited by the loading pins (55) as the shoulder (63) will eventually bottom out on the loading pins (55). |
