Automotive clutch assembly

An automotive clutch (1) has a pressure plate (3) which does not rotate with respect to the clutch housing (2), but which is capable of limited axial motion within the housing. One or more springs (4) are located between the housing and clutch pressure plate, forcing the plate towards a counter-plate (6) attached to the clutch housing, and it is separated by a clutch disc (8) inserted between the two plates. There are also commensurate controls which move the clutch back and forth. The springs and associated pressure plate act as an axial motion dampening mechanism between the axially secured friction clutch and the spring.
