The connecting device (3) is for the fixture of a work apparatus supportable on the ground and connected with the drive motor via a gearwheel gear (7) and a gear shaft (22). The hydro-pump (8) of a hydrostatic drive forming the travel drive is coupled so that it can be switched on and off with the gear wheel gear (7) and is connected by means of a pressure conduit (11) with the hydro motor (9) provided with a drive shaft (10) vertical to the travel axle (2). The driven-side end of the drive shaft is formed as a toothed pinion (17) engaging in a plate wheel (16) of a cone wheel gear fixed to the travel axle (2).
