The passenger compartment has a central console in the dashboard region, which limits the leg room of the front seat occupants. The central console (2) has a knee cushion (3) on which the knee of the passenger nearest the console can rest. The knee cushion may be in the vertical plane. It may be formed from an upholstery element (3a) and an adapter (5) fitted to the console. The adapter may be and injection-moulded part shaped to fit the central console and may be attached to it by screws.
