The meteorological balloon may be stabilised by fitting four stabilising units (12) on a horizontal circle about the balloon envelope (11). The stabilising units are attached to the balloon envelope by a plug which carries the envelope into a cylindrical orifice in the stabiliser whose neck is then reduced by a restraining collar. A line (14) passes around the balloon to modify the air current and is positioned by threading through conduits (15) in the stabilisers. The balloon basket (2) is supported by cables (13) attached to the stabilisers (12) and a small additional balloon (5) is added to the main balloon top by a neck (3a).
