Bimodal electric vehicle battery system

The vehicle includes a load powered by a nickel hydroxide based battery, while a generator device is operable for recharging the battery. A switch device is selectively movable between a first position electrically coupling the battery to the load for its operation and a second position electrically coupling the battery to the generator device for recharging the battery. A temp control device is proved for maintaining the temp of the battery at a first temp in the range of approximately + 10 deg C. to + 50 deg C. when the battery is electrically coupled to the load. The temp control device is operable for maintaining the battery at a second temp substantially lower than the first temp and being in the range of approximately +10 deg C. to -30 deg C. when the battery is electrically coupled to the generator device.
