The one piece, die-cast or injection moulded base plate (2) consists of a flat base and protrusions comprising a printing roller support (6) holding a rotary printing roller (4). A support (14) supports the printer head. A least one pin (48,50) supporting a cassette (56) containing a recording medium (62). The two cassette support pins are positioned on opposite sides of the flat base part and hold the cassette at points spaced apart from the base plate.
