PURPOSE:A paint resin having excellent pigment dispersibility, prepared by neutralizing a copolymer of an alkenylsuccinic anhydride, vinyl acetate and methyl methacrylate with a base. CONSTITUTION:A copolymer is neutralized which consists of (A) 0.1-5wt% alkenylsuccinic anhydride of the formula, wherein R and R' are each H or an alkyl, e.g., octenylsuccinic anhydride, (B) 29.9-70wt% vinyl acetate, (C) 25- 70wt% methyl methacrylate and (D) 0-20wt% other monomers, e.g., butyl acrylate. That is, the above components (A) to (D) are copolymerized in a solvent such as toluene, in the presence of a polymerization initiator such as lauroyl peroxide. The resulting copolymer is neutralized by adding a base, e.g., ammonia or dimethylaminoethanol, at the end of the polymerization. |
