Semi-sealed or sealed package for preserving produce composed of resin covered paper

A package and a method are disclosed for preserving freshness of produce using a corrugated fiberboard composed of an outer liner having a carbon dioxide permeability coefficient Pco2 of greater than 5x10-10 cm3(STP)cm/cm2xsxcmHg at a temperature of 27 DEG C.; a corrugating medium; and an inner liner having a water-vapor transmission rate of less than 100 g/m2xday at a temperature of 27 DEG C. The end parts of the corrugated fiber board which are exposed to an outer surface of the package are substantially sealed with a seal tape. A wrapping paper covered at least on one surface thereof with a resin layer which contains therein less than 0.917 g/cm3 density of a copolymer of ethylene and alpha -olefin having a carbon number of 3 to 12, having a carbon dioxide permeability coefficient of greater than 8x10-10 cm3(STP)cm/cm2xsxcmHg, a permeability coefficient ratio Pco2/Po2 of greater than 3.5 and a water-vapor transmission coefficient of less than 80x10-9 cm3(STP)cm/cm2xsxcmHg is also disclosed. With the use of the package or wrapping paper, produce can fall in a dormant condition, and the freshness thereof can be preserved so that the storage period therefor can be prolonged.
