PURPOSE:To obtain a laser beam printer which can automatically selects a desired picture forming color in accordance with a color designating command inputted through a communication cable, by providing a picture forming color selecting means which automatically selects a picture forming color in accordance with the color designating command contained in inputted picture data. CONSTITUTION:In case of interpreting that a color designating command 31 contained in picture data sent from a picture controller 44 through a communication cable 45 is, for example, '04H', a microprocessor 21 causes the developing agent holding member 11 of a yellow-developing agent applying section 3 having a 2-component developing material including yellow-color toner, developing agent holding member 11 of a cyanide-developing-agent applying section 5 having a 2-component developing agent including cyanide-color toner, and toner holding member 12 to rotate, in order to form 'green' on recording paper. Then developing biase voltages Va, Vc, and Vd are impressed from bias power sources 16, 18, and 19 and yellow- and cyanide-toner are transferred from the developing agent holding members 11 to the toner holding member 12 and two layers of the two colors of toner are formed on the toner holding member 12.
