PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To remove from a printer a controller for controlling the total operation of the printer, in a printer system comprising a printer and a printer controller. SOLUTION: A printer 20 is connected to a printer controller with a cable based on IEEE1394. The printer 20 includes a control register 21, a status register 22, and a specification register 23. Print data and control data are supplied from the print controller, and writing and reading of the print data to and from an FIFO memory 26 is controlled based on the control data so supplied. A printing head 28 performs printing based on output print data from the FIFO memory 26. A stepper motor 33 is driven based on the control data and a printing paper is transferred at a constant speed so that printing can be effected thereon. |
