PROCESS FOR PRODUCING ALKYLESTERS OF FATTY ACIDS

0-100% Excess of 1-6C alcohols are mixed with acids in the presence of alkaline catalysts at room temperature and atmospheric pressure. The catalysts then react with an inorganic or organic acid anhydride or with an alkaline material to produce compounds that are more soluble in the glycerine phase than in the ester phase. The catalyst is recovered from the glycerine phase by usual methods. The catalysts are amyl alcohol, potassium hydroxide or sodium hydroxide.
