Sterilising gas mixture is prepared in a cylinder filled with the required components of the gas mixture through a filling valve which is then closed by a valve protector element. When used in the sterilising chamber, the gas mixture is discharged by opening the wall of the cylinder. The cylinder includes the filling valve, closure cap and valve protector element. The bottom of the cylinder has a thin area which may be pierced or broken to discharge the contents of the cylinder.
