BAR CODE READER AND RECORDING MEDIUM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bar code reader which can precisely read even such bar code symbols that are badly soiled or blurred. SOLUTION: A binarization means 18 and a module value reliability generation means 19 calculate the value and its reliability of every module from the bar code images. A character generation means 14 calculates the value and its reliability of every corresponding character from each module value. A character disappearance decision means 15 decides whether every character is wrong or not based on the character reliability value. An error correction means 16 performs a decoding operation in consideration of the disappearance errors and based on the character disappearance information obtained from the means 15 and the character series obtained from the means 14 and then corrects the errors of character series. Thus, the bar code symbols can be read with high precision.
