PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alkaline secondary battery with long cycle life for charge and discharge, by using a hydrogen storage alloy electrode which is represented by general composition formula ABx and contains a specific hydrogen storage alloy. SOLUTION: A paste-type negative electrode 4 is formed by adding electric conductive material to hydrogen storage alloy powder, kneading the products with polymeric binding agent and water to make paste, filling the paste into a conductive board, and drying and forming the board. The hydrogen storage alloy is represented by a general composition formula ABx (A is at least one element of Zr and Ti, and B is at least one element of Ni, Mn, V, Co, Cr, Al, Fe, Cu, Mo, La, Ce, Pr, and Nd). X is in the range of 1.8<=x<=2.5, and the ratio of main peak strength to secondary peak strength is preferred to be less than 0.5 in an X-ray diffraction pattern using Cu as the target. Applying the hydrogen storage alloy powder to the negative electrode 4 provides an alkaline secondary battery with long cycle life for charge and discharge. |
