FIELD: metallurgy, in particular, heat treatment of aluminum alloys, more specifically, hardening of long articles made of aluminum alloys. SUBSTANCE: method provides for hardening cooling of long articles placed in shell in vertical hardening unit. Cooling medium in hardening unit is used in the form of flow of highly dispersed air-liquid mixture produced by pressure spraying of liquid with subsequent separation into liquid and gas components, the latter is stored in closed volume of the unit.
