The anti-skid procedure uses an anti-skid wheel, of small diameter, which is fitted to each wheel on the vehicle, driven or not. It is arranged to be normally inactive, but can be brought into operation, instantaneously, from the driver's seat, by means of a control on the dashboard. This anti-skid wheel carries a tread, with deep grooves, or with a typical snow tyre profile (G), with crampon studs (C). It also carries a toothed ring, which meshes with the special tooth fitted on to the tyre. It is carried by an operating arm, which is able to pivot between the inactive and the active positions to bring the anti-skid wheel into operation, as required.
