PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To intermittently oscillate first and second switching means with simple circuit constitution when a discharge lamp is removed. SOLUTION: A lamp detecting circuit 34 detects voltage of a preheating adjusting capacitor C41 to detect whether or not a discharge lamp is fixed to an output circuit 30, when the lamp detecting circuit 34 detects that the discharge lamp is not fixed, a continuous oscillation stop circuit 24 stops the continuous oscillation of first and second switching means 21, 22 generated by on/off operation, and the first and second switching means 21, 22 are intermittently oscillated with starting voltage from a starting circuit 23. |
