PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quickly support the read operation request of parity information and to prevent time delay by a different retrieval operation at the time of continuous read/write operations by connecting a parity cache between respective drivers and a controller. SOLUTION: When a data write instruction is received, a CPU 30 updates a required task file and calculates a target cylinder so as to use a different parity block inside the driver. The CPU 30 transmits data ND to be written to a controller 34. Then, after the controller 34 reads the data OD from the pertinent drivers 1-5 so as to generate the data NP, when read parity information OP hits in the caches 1-5, the controller 34 calculates the new data NP from the read parity OP and the data OD and ND and then, the controller 34 updates a cache table and then writes the data ND from a host computer and the new data NP to the pertinent driver.
