摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to obtain a high pretilt angle by using a polyimide high-polymer material having a specific structural unit as a liquid crystal array control film. SOLUTION: The polyimide high-polymer material having the structural unit expressed by the formula is used as the liquid crystal array control film. In the formula, R1 denotes 4 to 22C alkyl group; R2 denotes hydrogen or 1 to 22C alkyl group, respectively; R3 to R10 respectively denote hydrogen or 1 to 4C alkyl groups which are the same or different; Ar denotes a quadrivalent arom. group. The impartation of the high pretilt angle to the liquid crystal molecules is made possible by using the polyimide high-polymer material having such specific structural unit as the liquid crystal array control film. The high pretilt angle is effectively rendered by the straight chain alkyls of R1 and R2 in the formula. The pretilt angle increases if the chain length of R1 increases within a certain range. Then, the liquid crystal element adequate for an STN mode is obtd. by using such liquid crystal array control film.
