The mould clamping unit operates at very high clamping forces of 500 tons and above, resulting from comparatively low pressure injection into large volume moulds, and it is used in an injection moulding machine producing voluminous products. There are two bed plates (8, 9), one fixed, one moving, to carry the mould sections. Guides (2) pass through openings (7) in these plates. Insert openings (10) receive auxiliary units (12) on mould support block sections (11) to transmit extremely high clamping forces, mainly generated by direct contact between plates (8, 9) and the mould support block (11). The long guides (2) include spacers (3) limiting the mutual separation of the plates in closure, including the blocks (11), when clamping forces act along the guides. Also claimed is the manufacture of an injection moulded product using the mould clamping device.
