PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a optical head device with a small compact structure. SOLUTION: The device is provided with a semiconductor laser 13, a prism 14 equipped with a semi-transmitting reflection film 15a by which a part of the outgoing laser beam is reflected with the rest transmitted and refracted, an objective lens 4 for converging the light reflected by the film 15a to the recording face of an optical recording medium 3, and a signal detecting photodetector 21 which receives the light transmitted and refracted through the film 15a among the return beams of light from the optical recording medium 3 to the film 15a through the objective lens 4. The semiconductor laser 13 is installed on a sub-mount 12 fixed on a semiconductor substrate 11. The prism 14 is also attached onto the semiconductor substrate 11. A sharp angle 17 which is on the lower side of the inclined face 15 of the prism formed with the film 15a is chamfered so that a distance us shortened between the semiconductor laser 13 and the film 15a. Layout can be compactly structured for the semiconductor laser 13, the semi-transmitting reflection film 15a and the photodetector 21. |
