The invention relates to a method and device for handling sawn timber and corresponding pieces. According to the method a transfer conveyor 1 and/or a delivery device for different widths are displaced relative to one another so that the handling device can be flexibly switched from delivery device for different widths to delivery device for standard width and vice-versa. According to a preferred embodiment of the device the transfer conveyor 1 has been designed so that it can be raised and lowered, so that in the upper position of the conveyor 1 the delivery device for different widths including stopper is below the upper side of the conveyor 1, the device being in the position which corresponds to delivery of the standard width, and conversely when the conveyor 1 is in the lower position and the delivery device for different widths including stopper and the delivery element are in use, the device functions as delivery device for different widths. The method and the device permit efficient and flexible handling of sawn timber with regard to the sawn section that is to be handled. <IMAGE>
