Distribution valve for lamella settling basins has a valve which spreads a fluid flow evenly along its length used in a water treatment valve. The valve is made of a cylindrical tube (6a and 17a) which can be moved up or down by increasing or decreasing flow of liquid. When the liquid flow is low the tube drops and rests on the sides of the opening of the liquid path. When liquid flow rate is greater the tube is lifted up from its seat by the pressure of liquid, creating a space between it and the sides of the opening through which liquid can flow. The tube and opening in which it sits are long, so when opened a wide path is available for liquid flow. The surfaces on which the tube sits when closed are preferably the flat surfaces of square pipes (23) arranged diagonally. Alternatively they may be the free ends produced when a slot is cut in the top of a larger pipe (6). These valves may be used where liquid enters a decantation basin (6) and at the top of each outlet (17a) from a lamellar decanter (2). Uniform flow across the entire width of the settling vessel. The tubes (17a) forming the valves at the settler outlet are prevented from being moved horizontally out of position by a weighted bar (24) which holds them together. A level indicator (28) lets the weight (25) be adjusted, keeping the valves all open to the same extent and equal flows between each lamellar.
