PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a high output by making a medium into a magnetic record ing medium on which a signal is recorded and of which a difference between a signal output at the time of reproducing with a same speed as of recording and that at the time of reproducing with a speed two times as fast as of record ing is reduced. SOLUTION: In a magnetic recording medium having a magnetic layer famed on a tape form non-magnetic substrate, it is made possible to obtain a high output especially in frequencies of 20MHz or higher, by reducing a difference between a signal output at the time of reproducing with a same speed as of recording and that at the time of reproducing with a speed two times as fast as of recording. Here, it is preferable to use a signal of a wavelength of 0.50μm or shorter at the time of measuring a difference between outputs of recording and reproducing and it is recommended to select a wavelength so that a difference between the used signal and an output is within a range of 2.0-4.5dB.
