摘要 A process for measuring the amount of a deposit which can form on this inside of a pipe (1) comprises: (a) mechanically exciting a section (2) of the pipe by applying at at least one point on its outside a vibration exciter (3), with each excited section of the pipe forming a measuring zone; (b) picking up the vibrations transmitted by the pipe at at least one point (4); and (c) calculating from these signals the damping coefficient of the section and as a function of the resonance frequency and the damping coefficient of the pipe without deposit, deducing the thickness of the deposit on this section of pipe. Also claimed is a device for carrying out the above process, comprising: at least one mechanical exciter which can be applied to the outside of the pipe; at least one measuring device which can be applied to the outside of the pipe in the same section to receive vibratory information from the exciter via the pipe; equipment for treating and analysing the signals to obtain the resonant frequency and damping coefficient of the pipe both before a deposit is formed and during testing, and deducing the thickness of the deposit on the pipe. Further claimed is the use of the above instrument to the outside of a pipe.
