The inflatable ball has a hollow body (10) sealed to gas and an internal light source. The light source has a mounting base (215) fixed to the wall of the ball. The light source has a number of light-emitting diodes (LED) distributed along a rod. The electric supply is provided by dry batteries (402) fitted into the base of the rod assembly (300) which fits into the base attached to the wall of the ball. An electronic circuit controls supply to the LEDs. The assembly is held in place by the removable outer cover (500), which locks (301,92) with the base attached to the wall of the ball.
