CYTOKINE ENHANCED IMMUNOTHERAPY FOR BRAIN TUMORS

A therapy for treatment of patients with cancer utilizing the combination of a cytokine in a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier for systemic administration and a cytokine in a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier for local administration is described. In the most preferred embodiment, brain tumors are treated with a cytokine such as GM-CSF administered systemically, most preferably in combination with tumor antigen such as replication incompetent tumor cells, and a cytokine such as IL-2 or IL-4 administered locally, most preferably in a vehicle providing release over a period of time, such as transduced cells, again most preferably replication incompetent tumor cells, or incorporated into microparticulate vehicles such as polymeric microspheres.
