Composite metal hydroxide salts represented by formula (I): [Al2(Li(1-x).M(x+y)(ZnO)z(OH)(6+2y)]n(A<n->)(1+x).mH2O wherein M represents Mg and/or Zn; A<n-> represents an n-valent anion; 0</=m<5; and 0<x</=0.5 (preferably 0.01</=x<0.5), 0</=y</=0.5, and 0</=z</=0.5, provided that 0<(y+z)<1 (preferably 0.01</=(y+z)</=0.5) and 0<(x+y+z)</=1. When incorporated as a stabilizer into a halogenoresin, these salts less color the resin than known lithium/aluminum composite hydroxide salt stabilizers, and are excellent in thermal stability and the ability to trap a halogen, e.g., chlorine.
