A device for diluting a liquid sample to pre-selected proportions comprises at least one storage region (7) for the diluting liquid, at least one vessel (1) for the sample liquid being diluted, N number of mixing vessels (2-N) for the diluted liquid, device (9) for transferring a pre-selected amount of liquid sample to or between mixing pipes (2-N) and a device for transferring a pre-selected amount of diluting liquid from the storage region to the mixing pipes.The diluting liquid transfer device comprises at least one channel between the storage region and the mixing pipes, whilst the liquid sample transfer device is a transfer chamber whose position determines whether the channel is open or closed.
