A method and a device for packaging in particular perishable goods are described, which device comprises a support on which the goods, which are for example contained in crates, can be placed. A foil envelopes the crates, whereby the foil is connected airtight to the support on one side and to sealing means on the other side. The sealing means comprise a closure for removing a cover with a view to gaining access to the crates. The sealing means comprise an adjustable bracket which can be supported on the crates, so that when the upper layer of crates is removed, the volume within the package can be adapted to the degree to which the device is filled with products by adjusting the bracket. In that case the storage conditions within the device will remain optimal and can be maintained for a prolonged period, so that also delicate products are capable of retaining their freshness or, in the case of archaeological objects, their original condition.
