The invention concerns a component for a microwave oven, in particular a microwave waveguide and/or a microwave resonator (cavity) for conducting microwaves with high energy density at high temperatures for sintering hard materials. The invention further concerns a microwave oven provided with a resonator housing and at least one waveguide flanged thereon for microwave irradiation. According to the invention, the initially mentioned component, in particular the resonator housing inner wall and/or the waveguide surface, which is located inside the thermal insulation or is in contact with the sintering atmosphere, takes the form of a composite body whose carrier consists of a high-temperature-resistant material and whose surface layer which is between 0.1 mu m and 100 mu m thick is made of a material which is more electrically conductive relative to the carrier and resistant to the set sintering atmosphere. This material is stable up to high temperatures in particular in a carburizing atmosphere.
