The floating component may be formed as a shipboard and has a core (1) that consists of a chemically resistant and floatable material. The core is surrounded by a protective skin layer (2) which is chemically and corrosion resistant and resistant to mechanical wear and tear. The seams (3) of the protective skin layer are not waterproof and may be clamped together. Alternatively the component may be formed as a water wheel or as a tape drive comprising a rotating band (4) with blades (6) and rotating rollers (7) whose core (8) consists of the chemically resistant floating material.
