The vehicle has a starter battery current path and a traction battery current path which are connected together via a diode with a parallel relay. The controller (32) is connected to the traction battery current path (24) via a voltage meter (30). The voltage meter and controller are integrated into an electronic component. The controller is connected to a display unit (34). The voltage in the traction battery current path is measured; if it is greater than 12 volts and less than or equal to 14 volts a fault signal is generated and stored in a fault memory.
