The vehicle door may be opened by swinging the handle (13) outwards from the door and rotating a partial gear wheel (19) by means of a toothed extension (18) which is mechanically linked (4) to an electronically controlled (5) door lock motor (9). An electromagnet (12) normally blocks the action unless energised through the electronic control unit which has inputs from a pressure sensor (3) on the handle and an impact sensor (11).
