The servo drive for the roof and other components e.g. roof trim panel, is controlled by a switching control (12) and a signal generator (19) which produces signals which determine the direction of the various drives. The signal generator is linked to sensors and operates the servo drive in response to sensors e.g. rain detectors. Several servo functions can integrated into the control, linked to the operation of the roof. The control system also provides the drive signals for preset time intervals. The control system has tappings for the various sensor signals and combines them into the overall control in a preset mode. The tappings are linked by a databus.
