PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance all of the reliability, the transmission speed and the utility efficiency of the communication by making any transmission mode selectable. SOLUTION: The communication system is provided with a 1st transmission system (data conversion circuit 105a-109a) that conducts spread spectrum processing with a spread code 1 to send data and with a 2nd transmission system (data conversion circuit 105b-109b) that conducts spread spectrum processing with a spread code 2 to send data. In the case of the high reliability transmission mode, same data from a data buffer 101 are sent by the 1st and 2nd transmission systems to realize space diversity. In the case of the high speed transmission mode, data divided by a data division circuit 102 are simultaneously transmitted by the 1st and 2nd transmission systems so as to attain efficient data transmission. A control information insert circuit 104 adds transmission mode information to the transmission data.
