The fuel cell (1) has an arrangement for gravity fed delivery of fuel and/or oxidant into the cell. A circulating circuit (2) for fuel and/or oxidant has upper (4) and lower (3) inversion points inside the circuit. The fuel cell is arranged between the upper and lower inversion points. The cell and/or an arrangement (5) for carrying away heat are arranged along a distance which amounts to at least 80 per cent of the path between the upper and lower inversion points. The fuel cell can be made in an elongated form.
