The alarm system has at least one sensor which monitors the depth of sleep by monitoring the pulse rate, the rapid-eye- movement, the neck muscle movement and/or the electroencephalogram signals. The detected parameter values are transmitted to an alarm device via a radio link, for comparison with stored reference values via a microchip evaluation device, for providing the alarm signal at the optimum point in the sleep cycle within a defined time frame.
